END OF THE REAL MEN'S ERA

It seems, this is the era where all wise and humble elders of our community is ending. Those elders who have lived fully, without regrets, as they have at some point, achieved something greater than themselves. They came from subsistence farmers and hunters, from the remotest parts of the country but made it to the shores Port Moresby and even beyond. They were taught by expats, looked down on, frowned upon, discarded but have never resorted to violence but rather with humility.
Their humble beginnings is what led us - the privileged and ungrateful generation - to where we are now. Their vision, was for a peace and unity - to put provide permanent and stable homes for their families, lessen the load of bilums that their mothers carried, food and medicine for their siblings and to lay down the bloody bows and arrows that their fathers carried.
Sadly, when it was our turn to carry the batten, we added more bilums, bags and bastards to mothers, gave guns to our fathers and drugs our children as we strive to pretend that we have the 'good life' in the 'city'. If you walk outside your house or room today, you will hardly find a responsible adult that shares the same vision as these wise elders.
You will see a drunk or a drug addict, a wife beater under the cover of a prominent company executive - all congregating with their children around a 'table market', smoking cigarettes and bragging about the unrealistic volumes of alcohol they have consumed or unrealistic goals - stori tingting nating blo kisim feelings tasol.

They scream at the top of their voice - the most disgusting insults toward their own mothers, sisters and daughters, living day by day - not from sweat, struggle, determination or hard work but from mere chance and luck. Just like opportunists, who seize every opportunity - even if it meant lowering themselves to a certain degree morality. They find themselves complaining and blaming everyone else for the lack of recognition towards their livelihood and use this as the main excuse to harass, intimidate and prey upon the weak - their own flesh and blood.
Greed and pride, is what drives men today.
I should not say 'men'.
The real men's generation have passed.
