Chief AKA 'Tiff Tiff'

Pets - we've always have family pets growing up. It started with Flaichee (light brown furry and a happy chap) , then Timmy (big furry black and white and very friendly guy) , then Winnie  (is a she, and his all black. No one comes to the house unannounced). Chief was different. Chief was born in Gerehu Stage 2 - we never really knew the birth parrents as he was an explorer who wondered onto the street on a cold night and into our family.

Chief started his puppy tale in 2018 in a single rented room fed with milk and sweet biscuits until he matured. He was always kept close within eye sight and has never wandered off on his own outside the yard. When we moved to Gerehu Stage 5 in a stand alone house, he was a youngster going into his 'teenage' years, always jolly but fierce. There Chief met Venom (White and Brown furry explorer) whom they share their bed, plate and home. Unlike Venom, Chief likes to stay within the fence and was never let out. Chief was the guardian to our home, from violent clashes on the street to rowdy drunkards loitering around the fence, everyone on the street recognized Chief for his fierce bark. No one stands a chance when he is out of the fence.

Since Tristan was born in 2020, his bond with Chief grew stronger by the day. We let Tristan pet Chief and let them play on cool afternoons on the grass under the shade. Tristan loves the outdoors and Chief was his companion. We moved once again in October 2021 to Gerehu Stage 3A to a much smaller place and this time Chief met Bolt (Black, friendly but more mature). Chief spent his last days with Bolt, playing and the usual chasing of kids outside the gate every time its opened. Tristan would wake up most mornings and go outside to say 'Good morning Tiff tiff' and at night would say 'Goodnight Tiff tiff' before going to bed. Im pretty sure their bond was stronger than ours. Before Tristan could talk, he could already call chief with his unique 'whistle'.

Wednesday  8th of June, I popped my head outside the door to check on Chief, he was sick for almost 3 weeks and has grown weak. This time, he could not walk. I went down and tried comforting him, the night before rained heavily and I had to wrap him in a towel and find him a dry spot to lie down. I figured we really need to check on him after work. We had meeting that night. Whilst everyone was rushing to get dressed, I poured some Sprite on his plate and tried to feed him. He drank it all. I was happy, at least he had something. After meeting, we got back tired but Chief laid at the same spot.  His father came and tried giving him more sugar-water. We were hopeful. After seeing the father off, myself and Tristan walked back to check on him - he was gone. A few seconds sooner and we would be able to catch his last breath.

That was the end of it. He was part of us, part of our family, we had lots of memories and pictures. Thankyou for being part of our lives Chief - Tiff tiff!! We will miss you.
